HORSE RIDING ADVENTURES FOR SCHOOL GROUPS.

Offering Opportunities to learn about local environmental sustainability and conservation issues as well as the rich history of the Victorian cattlemen.

We offer rides for school groups all year round and are able to cater for small and large groups alike. We comply with Victorian Education Department Guidelines and have a list of documents below to assist with your School Council approval process.

We operate from two locations where we can offer school group riding. Our Mansfield site is the one featured on this web site and is 20 minutes driving time from Mansfield and many school camp locations around the Mansfield Mt Buller region. Our Howqua site is based at Camp Howqua a 200 bed adventure camp on the Howqua river.

FIVE DAY RIDE HOWQUA CHALLENGE RIDE ITINERARY

with either bunk house accommodation or camping with tents and swags

SAMPLE ITINERARY

DAY 1

Leave from our historic stables just after lunch and climb up to the high country ridge line with spectacular 360 degree views. We then descend down into the Dungeon Gully and explore the creek beds and bridle tracks to our camp site at Camp Howqua (Accommodation type from tents to bunk house lodge) on the Howqua River.

DAY 2

Today we journey up the Howqua River with over 50 river crossings to the historic Howqua Hills National Park.  It is a challenging days riding with through this remote area with many opportunities for cantering. We stop for a pack lunch on the river bank surrounded by just mountains.

After lunch we ride through Wares Flat, Whisky Flat and Tobacco Flat and into a privately owned property with a choice of bunk house or swag out accommodation.

With both options there are hot showers available

DAY 3

A quieter day in the saddle where we explore the historic Howqua Hills area including  the ‘Professors Hut’ and ‘Fred Frys Hut’. We also take the opportunity to fine tune the skills of the students. In the afternoon the students have the opportunity for a bush walk to stretch their legs and a swim in the Howqua River

DAY 4

An early rise and then we ride along the Howqua Feeder track back towards Camp Howqua. This offers spectacular views over the Howqua River and many exciting cantering trails. We stop at Running Creek Reserve for lunch and then follow a bush track back to Camp Howqua.

We then ride onto Camp Howqua for our night’s camp

DAY 5

Today we set off for “Kate Camerons Peak” to see the perilously steep hill where the famous jump scene from the “Man from Snowy River” movie was filmed. We then descend back down to the farm for a post lunch departure.
